Ontario’s public health care system is in crisis, and the hospital professionals that keep it running are at a breaking point.
Behind every test result, scan, and treatment plan are thousands of highly trained hospital professionals — lab technologists, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and many more — who deliver and support care at every stage of your health journey.
Yet these professionals are being pushed to the brink by chronic understaffing, excessive overtime, and unsustainable working conditions. As a result, wait times are rising, care is delayed, and the risk to patient outcomes is growing.
These professionals are the backbone of our hospitals, and they need your support.
But without urgent action, more will leave, and the system we all depend on will continue to suffer.

Fix the Staffing Crisis Facing Hospital Professionals at Ontario’s public hospitals.
The hospital professionals within our communities, who work tirelessly at our local hospitals have been left understaffed, overworked and burnt out as the government continues to ignore the fallout from their underfunding. With double overtime hours worked in Ontario hospitals over 60 times higher than they were in 2022, labs experiencing an 88% increase in workload while 83% remain understaffed, the crisis in our hospitals is only getting worse. Hospitals have spent $9.2 billion in public funds over the past decade on costly private staffing agencies. The government has chosen to line private pockets while eroding quality of care and putting the future of our publicly run hospitals at risk. These issues are not temporary – they are systemic – and they require real investment to be solved.
Add your name to urge health leaders and the provincial government to support OPSEU/SEFPO Hospital Professionals in bargaining as they call for the resources and funding needed to combat the recruitment and retention crisis.
